In this issue of eScope you’ll read about an important new product, the PrioCHECK® Salmonella Ab porcine. Salmonellosis, a widespread disease that can cause serious illness in humans is typically contracted from the consumption of raw or undercooked pork and poultry products. Here, we report on Prionics highly reliable and efficient new test for detecting the presence of Salmonella in blood or meat juice samples at slaughter.

The electronic animal identification devices offered by Prionics Italia are another example of our expanding portfolio. As of December 31st, 2009, new European Union (EU) regulations will make it mandatory for all sheep and goats to be identified by both a visual and an electronic tag. Read on about Prionics RFID identification system as a complete solution to meet the new EU requirements.

A key task of the Prionics R&D team is to develop a live test for the detection of prion disease in human blood with the Prionics conformation specific anti-prion antibody 15B3. In this issue, we report on the results of a recent study showing that the antibody 15B3 can be applied to a wider range of prion disorders and may be also applied to detect prion disease earlier.
