At the 9th international colloquium on paratuberculosis, Prionics will be present to exchange the newest developments in this disease area with the international paratuberculosis scientific community. Paratuberculosis is a worldwide animal health problem affecting in particular beef and dairy herds and can cause significant economic losses.

Experts on paratuberculosis will meet at the end of October 2007 in the Japanese "science city", of Tsukuba, north of Tokyo. The city is home to more than 60 research institutes, including the University of Tsukuba. In this exciting environment Prionics is sponsoring the 9th International Colloquium on Paratuberculosis (ICP), and will be present with a booth. The meeting which runs from October 29 until November 2, 2007, is one of the regular meetings of the International Association for Paratuberculosis (IAP). The 9th ICP will be hosted by the National Institute of Animal Health of Japan and the scientific program will cover every aspect of paratuberculosis research from applied science on control programs to molecular biology and diagnostics.

First test approved by the USDA for milk samples

Prionics will report on the use of PARACHEK® for the diagnosis of paratuberculosis in bovine milk samples. Surveillance of cattle herds with the PARACHEK® using either serum or milk is an efficient, cost effective and reliable method to detect paratuberculosis in infected herds. In combination with good farm management, the test can contribute substantially to the reduction in prevalence of Johne's disease in cattle herds. This versatile test can be used for cattle, sheep and goats and was the first to be approved by the USDA for testing of bovine milk samples.
