Prionics has enhanced its presence in Europe by targeting the Benelux and Nordic markets with the creation of Prionics Lelystad B.V. in the Netherlands. This new affiliate emerges from the former Cedi-Diagnostics B.V. acquired by Prionics in 2006. Prionics Lelystad will build on the former company's expertise and their comprehensive portfolio of leading diagnostic tests for farm animal diseases.
With the operational launch of Prionics Lelystad B.V. in the Netherlands, Prionics has established its 5th branch office worldwide and strengthened its position in Europe by targeting the Benelux and Nordic markets. The Netherlands site complements Prionics other affiliates in North and South America, Italy and Germany.
The latest affiliate was formerly known as Cedi-Diagnostics B.V., acquired by Prionics in 2006, and a spin-off from today's world famous Animal Sciences Group of Wageningen UR. Prionics Lelystad will utilize existing expertise and build on established diagnostic tests for farm animal diseases such as Food and Mouth Disease (FMD), a test which is currently being applied to control the outbreak of FMD in the United Kingdom. (See also FMD outbreak in the UK in this issue of eScope).
"The launch of Prionics Lelystad is an important milestone as it allows us to consolidate our expertise and directly serve our customers in the Benelux and Nordic markets. Moreover, we are able to harmonize our offering under the Prionics brand and to enlarge our production capacity at the Lelystad site", said Dr Markus Moser, CEO of Prionics AG.
Own R&D at Lelystad
Beyond customer and product related activities, Lelystad will remain an important location for Prionics with its own R&D facilities and due to its proximity a close working relationship with the Animals Science Group of the Wageningen UR (Netherlands), a recognized leader in animal disease control. Prionics formed a strategic partnership with the Animal Science Group in 2006 to further complement its extensive scientific network with leading research institutes around the world.
