Prionics has grown from a venture to become a world leader in farm animal diagnostics within ten years. A Swiss company, driven by an entrepreneurial culture and honored with national and international awards, Prionics continues to strive for operational excellence with the ultimate aim of delivering value-added solutions to its growing customer base.

Founded in 1997 as a spin-off from Zurich University, Prionics acquired its status with the creation of the first rapid diagnostic test for the detection of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) such as mad cow disease (BSE) or scrapie. Through the efforts of the Prionics' staff and the availability of the Prionics®-Check WESTERN, we have been able to contribute significantly to the prevention of BSE infected cows entering the food chain and the establishment of a BSE surveillance system globally. Today, Prionics offers a unique product line for the diagnosis of TSEs based on three different platforms.

Over the years Prionics has grown and today we focus our expertise on discovering, developing and marketing innovative diagnostic solutions for major farm animal diseases in order to protect consumer health. We are committed to providing our customers with high-quality products and sustainable solutions. Prionics' mission is to expand its business into other areas of farm animal diseases through both in-house developments and acquisitions. The acquisition of the Pfizer Animal Health diagnostic product line in 2005 and the Dutch farm animal diagnostics company CEDI Diagnostics B.V. in 2006 are two such examples of Prionics' growth strategy.

From excellence in research to innovative solutions
Prionics creates its high quality diagnostic kits and innovative market solutions in its own R&D facilities in Zurich, Switzerland and Lelystad, the Netherlands. Beyond its own expertise, the company capitalizes on an extensive scientific network of leading research institutes around the world and has access to a unique research and competence center through a strategic partnership with the Animal Science Group of the Wageningen University and Research Center (Wageningen UR) in the Netherlands - a recognized leader in animal disease control.

Today, Prionics offers its customers a portfolio of more than 50 diagnostic test kits, accessories and biochemicals covering all major farm animal disease areas. Complementary to its portfolio expansion, Prionics has also expanded its global presence with affiliates in strategic markets in North and South America and in selected European countries. Nominated as "Animal Health Company of the Year" in 2006, Prionics has established a significant global presence through its worldwide distribution network. Most importantly of all, Prionics' committed staff continue to have great ambitions for the next decade and beyond.
