Heads and staff from a growing number of laboratories testify to the Prionics®-Check PrioSTRIP's convenience and reliability.
"With this rapid test, our two part-time employees handle a daily throughput of up to 300 samples, and the processing time for one sample is as little as two minutes", said Dr. J. Rentsch, Head Molecular Biology with Swiss Quality Testing Services (SQTS). SQTS is specialized in conducting routine tests on cattle samples to detect BSE and applies the Prionics®-Check PrioSTRIP for this purpose.
Labor Dr. Güntert AG in Lucerne has tested 23'811 samples with the Prionics®-Check PrioSTRIP. "Most of these samples were from normal slaughtered animals, 1656 were from diseased animals and 1783 from fallen stock", explains Mr. K. Blum, Head of BSE diagnostics with Dr. Güntert AG. "None of the samples gave a false positive result." Reliability that is confirmed by the results from the Laboratoire de Touraine in Tours, France, where 17'459 tests have been performed from July through September 2005. According to the Director of the Laboratory, J. Daval, none of the samples were "initially reactive" (i.e., requiring repeat testing in duplicate) nor "inconclusive" (i.e., requiring confirmatory testing at the national reference laboratory). These positive experiences are shared by laboratories in Canada and the Czech Republic.
In addition, sensitivity and specificity of the Prionics®-Check PrioSTRIP were confirmed in two ring trials that were organized in spring 2005 by the Neurocenter, the Swiss BSE reference laboratory at the University of Berne. All positive and negative samples were identified correctly.
