Prionics - the market leader in TSE diagnostics - has started to extend its business into other areas of farm animal diagnostics. With the recently established affiliate IDnostics AG and the acquisition of the Pfizer Animal Health diagnostic product line, the Zurich based company targets a leading position in the rapidly growing farm animal diagnostic sector. Prionics focuses its expansion on diseases which cause major economic damage to the farm industry or affect human health.

Prionics complements its own Research and Development efforts with the acquisition of market established products. With the newly founded Prionics affiliate IDnostics AG, Prionics entered another cutting-edge business focused on the control of epidemics and consumer protection. IDnostics markets and produces the innovative TypiFixTM diagnostic ear tag, a state-of-the-art tool that combines animal identification with diagnostics in herd animals. "TypiFixTM allows easy tracking from the fork to the farm," says Prof. Dr. med. Vet. Gottfried Brem, inventor of TypiFixTM. With a TypiFixTM sample, it is possible to perform various diagnostic tests, such as detecting viral diseases and genetic traits.

Products for the detection of Brucellosis, Tuberculosis and Paratuberculosis

In a first step, in 2004, Prionics expanded its business by acquiring the worldwide distribution rights for the innovative Brucella FPA - a new technology for the diagnosis of Brucellosis. At the same time a development cooperation with the US based Diachemix LLC was started. Another milestone was the acquisition of the Pfizer Animal Health diagnostic product line. The portfolio includes the well-known tests for the detection of Tuberculosis (Bovigam®) and Paratuberculosis (Parachek®) in livestock. Both diseases cause major economic damage to the farm industry and can affect human health.
